Hello!

Hi, I'm Toby, I'm a 13 year old thoroughbred cross and I'm a gelding but that is still a sore point so I prefer not to talk about it. Sarah found me on horse hunter whilst looking for her first horse, she thought that I looked like I could do with some good food and exercise from the photo on my advert but came to see me anyway. Unfortunately I didn't look much like the picture on the internet, I was much worse, I hadn't been looked after properly so I was very thin, my spine stuck up and people said my ribs looked like a picket fence, my hips stuck out too, I felt sad and couldn't be bothered to do much. I made Sarah really sad. I'm much better now but me and Sarah still have some work to do and need to get to know each other better so this blog has been set up to let people know how we are getting on.

Proper Schooling

Yesterday afternoon I was called in from the field early and taken to my stable, Sarah tacked me up and then we went in the school with this man, Tom, I had tried to pinch his coffee and knocked it over him a bit but he wasn't cross. He told Sarah to keep me walking at a good pace (pah- not amused, I like plodding!) and then she had to keep shortening my reigns, I did not like that but started to give in after nearly an hour. Sarah said her shoulders were aching, good I thought because my backside is aching too! Tom gave Sarah a whip and asked her to ride with it, I decided I didn't like him much for that, I like getting away with doing as little as possible! After our lesson I went and tucked into my haylage and had my rugs on to keep me warm, I had to wait a while for my tea so that I didn't get colic, I don't like waiting for grub but I really don't fancy getting colic so didn't mind too much.

Early this morning more white stuff fell from the sky, I went out with my friends, Logan came to greet me when I got into the field. I think I will be coming in early today.

Here I am in the white stuff, I've mamaged to make my new rug really dirty now by having a good roll every day.

New Neighbour

There was a right commotion a few nights back in the stable next door to me, its been empty since Whisky went to the paddock in the sky but a few days ago it was painted then when Sarah left for the night these people came and put matting and stuff down. Then the straw went down and in came a chestnut pony. I don't like him, he invades my space and keeps looking over the wall taunting me, last night I thought sod this and went for him, I tried to bite him. He winds me up constantly, my water bucket is in the corner near the wall where ginge can look over, Sarah said she will move it though so I can stay away from him, he's been upsetting me so I've been walking round in circles because I'm so wound up.

On a better note I got new shoes this morning, Sarah told the farrier that I trip up sometimes so he put different ones on, now I just have to pay more attention!

Aint no fence high enough

Pah yesterday I got put in a niew field with Hollie, we had a good run around together then just had a munch on the grass, I was quite happy with this set up, Charlie came to join us a little later and everything was great. Later on though two other horses came into our field, one of them kept trying to herd the others away from me which I didn't think was very fair, then there was madness so I thought balls to this I'm out of here and jumped out and cantered up the lane back to my old field where I stood and waited for someone to let me in sod that!

I then got free schooled, followed by being ridden in the school for a short while, I did my best not to let Sarah on but she won in the end, she then did something strange and rode me out of the school, I went right back to my stable, she wanted me to go left so we had a bit of a fight, I won or at least I thought so, I turned right and she made me walk properly and go straight past my stable and back out of the courtyard, I couldn't believe it, outwitted by a human. Then she had the nerve to ride me down the lane towards the big riding field, Jeanette told her my girth was too big and tightened it up she also said Sarah should get a smaller one- damn it busted I thought to myself. It kept trying to turn back when we went down the lane but she just made me bend and walk in a little circle so I gave in. How dare she take me out on my own, I just don't do that! The walk around the big field with Dave was good but I did get a bit excited by the big open space and wanted to go a bit faster, she wouldn't let me! On the way back I started to trot as I was eager for my tea, Sarah wasn't impressed. All in all an adventurous but tiring kind of day!

More work

I've been a busy boy recently, I've been ridden quite a lot, I've stopped getting as grumpy when my girth is fastened. Sarah said she's really impressed with my progress, well I have been here and done it all before, silly woman. I huff quite a lot to let her know this but she does keep me guessing on where I'm going next which stops me getting bored.

I'm not overly impressed with this weather, my neck has been pretty itchy, Sarah put some cream on it for a few days, it was cold even though she rubbed it between her hands so I tried to get out of her way and held my head really high so she couldn't do it. Anyway last weekend I got my mane and tail washed, it felt so much better afterwards, it was less itchy. Sarah sprayed some stuff on too, she does this every day now and gives my mane a good brush so I don't get lots of dry skin building up again.

After my mane and tail wash I went in the school but without the evil saddle and even without the evil bridle, I rolled around to try and stop myself from smelling like a girl.

After I rolled Max's mum Jo made me trot and canter, it was great fun, I definitely want to do it again sometime soon.
